CARBOHYDRATE-A DIET

Diabetes is a disorder that affects the way the body manages blood sugar or glucose. Glucose enters the body through an individual's diet; it then makes its way through the intestinal tract where it is absorbed. Once in the blood stream, the sugar is absorbed by the cells which require the glucose to function. Glucose is an important energy source in the body. In a person with diabetes the blood sugar levels are elevated whilst cell sugar levels are depressed. A person with diabetes either has cells that are no longer able to absorb glucose or do not have enough insulin which is the hormone responsible for cell glucose absorption.
Diabetes, also known as diabetes mellitus, is a general term for a variety of different metabolic disorders that affect the ability of the body to process and use sugar properly. Medically, this is referred to as an inability of the body to metabolize glucose effectively. This results in an abnormally high level of glucose in the blood, called hyperglycemia.
Left untreated, hyperglycemia can lead to serious long-term complications, such as kidney failure, blindness, serious skin infections, gangrene, cardiovascular disease, birth defects, stroke, disability, and death.
The major types of diabetes include type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes. The earliest form of type 2 diabetes is called prediabetes. Some forms of diabetes, such as type 2 diabetes, are becoming more common.
All of these are similar in that they are metabolism disorders involving the pancreas, insulin regulation, and glucose. However, the causes for these types of diabetes are different and therefore they require somewhat different approaches when it comes to treatment.
Basically, it could be seen that the major cause of diabetes is from our daily diet and not being hereditary as some believe. Before you begin to think of hereditary, consider the diet of the family. if the same food a diabetic father is eaten by the children, then there is a great tendency of having a re-occurrence of the ailment (DIABETES).
